Easeful—A Dental Student Apartment Design by Viku Furniture Interior

INTERIOR | RESIDENTIAL | BANDUNG | INDONESIA | 2022

Aldila Nira Monika, one of the designers at Viku Furniture Interior talked to us about one of their recent apartment design projects that had finished last August. The apartment has two bedrooms, one kitchen and pantry, two bathrooms, and a living room.

Some briefs the client gave at the beginning were to be visually warm, maximalizing the function of the space but still easeful to rest and do her homework. The client asked Viku Furniture Interior for the working area to be spacious enough so she could invite some of her friends to do homework together there.

The client is a dental student at one of the big universities in Bandung. Located at Gallery Ciumbuleuit Hotel and Apartment which is an area that has cooler air than the other areas in Bandung, the client really wants the apartment to have a warm ambiance. For that reason, Aldila, the designer in charge of this project, proposed the Japanese-Scandinavian concept design for this apartment.

Besides the reasons mentioned before, Aldila chose Japanese-Scandinavian as its concept because of the result of the client’s personality interpretation, what kind of activities are going to do there, and the client’s fondness for the visual tendency. If we look at the other Viku Furniture Interior projects, we would know that Viku has great experience designing and working on this kind of concept.

“Actually the client didn’t specifically ask us about what kind of style she really wants for her apartment. What she emphasized the most is that she wants a maximization of the room’s space and a maximization of the room’s function,” explained Aldila.

Established in 2000, Viku Furniture Interior was founded by Dicky Deriawan’s father. Dicky Deryawan is the current principal designer. Viku Furniture Interior manufactures all the furniture elements in this project such as wall panels, loose furniture, built-in furniture, and even chandeliers, in Viku’s workshop.

During the day, the sunlight will enter the room through the gaps of the vertical blind and it will create beautiful shadows. Aldila alone has a favorite spot in this apartment which is the communal area: the combination function of the living and dining room. Viku’s custom-made pendant hanging perfectly upon the dining table paired with an L-shaped bench and equipped with storage make this area not only functional but also beautiful.
